The Blind Mist did not dissipate gently; it was torn apart by a sudden, violent shift in the wind. The sky above the Tidal Star Sea, usually a canvas of silver and gray, bruised into a deep purple before bleeding into a terrifying, luminous red.

The Crimson Undertow had arrived.

Down below, the fragile skiffs that had ignored the Believers’ lanterns and chased the phantom jellyfish were the first to suffer. The red tide surged upwards, its highly corrosive waves splashing against the hulls. With his brass telescope, Pickle Cat watched grimly as the green timber of those ships instantly blackened and splintered. The "treasures" they had tried to harvest—the neon jellyfish—detonated into clouds of toxic, blinding dust.

Panic, the true apex predator of the Star Sea, was unleashed.

"Teacher, the undertow is accelerating," the Brass Arbiter clicked urgently, its dials spinning wildly out of control. "The red tide is creating a localized gravity well. It will drag everything within three nautical miles down into the abyss."

Pickle Cat didn't answer immediately. He walked to the very center of the observatory, where the grand crystal core of the lighthouse rested. He took off his leather gloves, exposing his emerald paws, and placed them directly onto the cold, dormant crystal.

"We don't need to fight the gravity well," Pickle Cat said, his voice low but vibrating with a strange resonance. "We just need to give them a line to hold onto."

He channeled his magic—the pure, accumulated starlight of countless quiet nights—into the core.

BOOM.

A shockwave of pure energy shattered the surrounding red mist. A beam of solid, emerald starlight erupted from the top of the tower. It was so intense, so absolute, that it didn't just illuminate the storm; it pierced it. The green light carved a physical, glowing corridor through the chaotic crimson waves.

"The path is open!" the Newsboy chirped, its mechanical voice amplified by the tower's acoustics, echoing across the boiling sea. "Follow the green light! Do not look at the red waves!"

The ships led by the Cat Believers—those who had chosen the steady, small lanterns over the flashy illusions—were perfectly positioned. They steered their vessels into the emerald corridor. Within the green light, the corrosive effects of the red tide were neutralized, the water calming into a glassy surface.

Hours later, the storm finally broke. The red tide receded back into the depths, leaving behind a scarred but quiet sea.

Pickle Cat sat back at his heavy oak desk, his fur looking slightly less vibrant after expending so much energy. He opened a thick, leather-bound journal and dipped his quill into a pot of silver ink.

"The Crimson Undertow of the Fifth Moon," he wrote in elegant script. "Many ships were lost to the phantom lights. But the lighthouse held. The Believers held. We survived another cycle."

He closed the notebook, took a sip of his cold peppermint tea, and looked out at the tranquil, silver-gray morning.

The Watcher's duty was never truly done, but for today, the Star Sea was safe.
